VIC AND HIS MATES
Vic had many friends over the years and was well liked in most social situations but his close group known as “The Gang” resulted in many holidays and much fun(and wine) over more 40 years of friendship.

“Vic was the most knowledgeable person on 60’s and 70’s music we have ever known. He was an absolute fountain of knowledge, and proving that, in one week-end trip down to the Holiday Inn on the Vaal many years ago – the de Kock’s and Jansen’s. Sunday afternoon competition with a really big crowd there – name the song and band/singer. The prize’s, 5 questions and 5 bottles of champagne to be won. NO CONTEST – walked away with all 5 bottles. His friendship to all of us was unsurpassed and without limit or boundaries. A true friend and gentleman, who never had a bad thing to say about anyone. One could call on him at any time day or night for anything and he would drop what he was doing to help. His family and ours spent many Christmas’s together when the children were young and that friendship never wavered for a moment over the past 49 years. Rest well Vic – miss you forever.”

“Vic, words in situations like this are sometimes hard to find but, in your case, it is not hard at all to express our thoughts of you, a good human being.
For the years that we have been friends with you and Di, nearly 40 plus years in all, we have had a relationship that included so many good times. We will never forget all the lunches, braais, holidays, breakfasts, train trips and the serious discussions resulting from your love of National Geographic.
Your interest in the wellbeing of others was a joy to behold and appreciated. You genuinely cared. Your love of your family and the interest you showed as Oups was an example to many others.
You were a consummate gentleman often pulling me to order during some of my sillier moments. I deserved it, most times. LOL. The consumption of good red wine that we enjoyed is going to be difficult to replicate. Your life with Di was a real rollercoaster and we have no doubt that those memories will stay with Di forever.
Whether it was the Big Five or cruising the oceans you embraced everything with enthusiasm and an inquiring mind. Studious, serious at times but always a good friend ready for a good laugh. We will miss you.
I will raise a glass of good red wine in your honour and to bring back memories of all those special times. But besides that, your memory will not be forgotten. RIP Dear Friend, Vic.”

“Over all the years that I knew Vic we shared a love of tennis and music. In our early days in Johannesburg I played many times at his club in Townsview. We also liked the same type of music and I have many CD'S that he made for me when I was unable to find them elsewhere. Karen and I will always remember the wonderful times we had together. The get together’s with the gang will never be the same again. Vic you will always be fondly remembered by us. The photograph of Vic, Terry and Grewe, we think, was taken in Gillview, in our younger days.”

“We have wonderful memories of our times together. Of many hikes sorting out the problems of the world or just walking in companionable silence. Our many braai’s. But our most enduring memory is of the friendship you gave us and the love we shared. The one thing that we will always remember was Vic’s incredible musical knowledge and how he helped us win a music quiz contest. We will miss you our friend.”
