AN OUPA IN HIS ELEMENT

FATHERS DAY JUNE 2018

If we searched the whole world over we would never find an Oupa who was more caring and kind. We hope that you remember we love you more than words can say.

Oupa’s grandchildren were the apple of his eye and gave him a new lease on life for laughter, fun, love and sport.

“One of my favourite memories of my Oupa was he always brought our favourite Magnum ice creams whenever he came to visit. It was always in a little blue cooler box with ice packs and he always joked that they were all three for him, but we never had a braai or visit without a Death by Chocolate.”

“My Oupa always called me Missy – being the only granddaughter amongst all the boys. Oupa cared very much about having a clean car and we spent many a Saturday afternoon washing and cleaning it with him. He loved a good maths equation and taught me how to do it after he had tested it on all of us and we thought he was a genius.”

“There are many but one of my favourite memories of Oupa was when we went to Kruger or Pilansberg and he would teach me about birds and how to recognize them. And we would try and figure out together what birds we were seeing – one looking through the binoculars and the other in his bird book. Oupa was also famous for doing the name as an opposite so a ‘hot cross bun’ became a ‘cold happy roll’. I will miss that.”

“My Oupa was always there supporting me and cheering me on, no matter what sport I was playing and the venue and time. If it was 8 o’clock in Pretoria – he was there. His favourite joke at mealtime was saying ‘look over there’ when he secretly stole your food or dinner and hid it under the table and then tried very hard with a not very straight face to say it wasn’t him.”
Cole (13)

“I have so many memories of Oupa, but my two favourite in particular are when we would climb into the pool at Nana and Oupa’s old house and he would hold me above the water and make bubbles, and he would call it the speedboat. Also when he pulled out his Atlas book and showed me some capital cities and countries and places he visited with Nana. Oupa and I were the Einsteins of the new age. I love you Oupa.”
